fianl design

This is my final design from our mock exam this year, the idea behind the design is one of making a technology magazine that appeals to a slightly different target market. I decided to go for a slightly more specific market of firstly more inclined to women and then trying to get into the high class market so I can feature some of the most expensive and innovative products that are available now. Below shows me adding my individual creations to the final piece in order to finalise the design. To create the background of the science text I first wrote out a massive array of text on my class white board, photographed it and then overlaid two sections over one another and finally added the blue overlay as you can see below.

I have also created a double page spread for my rift magazine, I have tried to keep the same expensive feel with doing a comparison of the best luxury watches available at the moment. As the magazine is slightly inclined towards a woman's market I have made it so the mens watches features works as a present selection comparison for perhaps a husband or boyfriend. There is a range of price ranges included so the features should cater everyone in my original target audience. To create this piece I have transformed an original image of the remain watch in my feature to add some artistic variation, using the negative circles to break up the background, focus the product and illuminate the other products that are included in the feature.

Final drafting ideas

The image shown here, above, depicts my first draft of my final cover design. As you can see I have highlighted any changes that I felt I needed to improve, the background to go behind the iphone was yet to be decided but I was sure that I would have a half blue print half cover design. This draft shows the layout well but lacks the detail of my next drafts.

This second image is more detailed as I have started to think about the colours of the piece, I have used a colour wheel along as my own knowledge of what particular colour show to decide that the best base colour for my piece would be a light pink, I have tried to add some contrast by using blue in my main cover image of the iPhone. Improvements from my last draft include; the central position of the main images, larger consideration to sizing ratio and modification to the bars that will hold the iPhone name and small tag name.

In this draft I have completed all of the size ratio's, although they may need to be tweaked when in photoshop, also I have added the text that will be included on the cover of the piece. The actual fonts have been decided to add particular contrasts. The font of the magazine name and size will be changed on computer.

Design ideas

Final design detail experiments

For my final cover there were a couple of details that I need to establish, there is one piece of space behind my main picture of an iPhone, I have decided to fill this with a pattern that in some way represents the phone, to get ideas I have first made a mind map of certain terms that I would use to describe the phone, around them I have described them in more detail to help me come up with some pattern designs.
I have created twenty five different patterns, shown below, that I could repeat to form a full pattern set to go behind my main iPhone image.
After some careful deliberation I have ranked my patterns one to twenty five, one being my favourite being the mathematical equations, for realistic affect I will write them out on a whiteboard and them crop them behind my image in photoshop, with my various colour effects.
